Kate Willis NP-C, IFMCP

Virtual Nurse Practitioner

I knew early on that my career path would involve healing. When I began my first job as a nurse practitioner in 2009, I knew I was in the right place. I stepped into a busy role in gynecological oncology, and while I was fascinated with the science of my job, the connections with patients kept me going. This job was my introduction to women’s health, and I began to grow my knowledge regarding sexual wellness, surgical and natural menopause, and hormone symptom management.

As long as I can remember, I have had a personal interest in wellness and nutrition. For many years, I struggled with feeling like my personal interests and professional experience did not align. At work, I would prescribe medications, and at home, I would look for natural options and healthy foods. I understood the importance of addressing the psychosocial aspect of patients from my training, but didn’t know there was a way I could address disease and dysfunction at the root.

“After the birth of my second child, my own health worsened.”

My longstanding digestive issues worsened, my fatigue was intense, and I struggled with insomnia. I ate well and exercised enough but not too much. I thought I was healthy, but my symptoms told me otherwise. I began to explore how I could help my body heal, and stumbled into the practice of a Functional Medicine physician. It was through functional medicine testing and interventions that I began to see personal healing, and realized that my professional career needed to change to this new way of helping others heal.

I was certified through the Institute for Functional Medicine in 2021, and am thankful for such solid and evidence based training. I use it daily in my care for patients as we work together to address the root cause of disease and dysfunction in the body. Prior to my work with Hormone Wellness MD, I worked in a functional medicine practice in Alabama with a focus on hormone health. There, I was able to expand my understanding of hormone health and sexual wellness from a functional medicine perspective. I am thrilled to be able to bring my training and knowledge to patients at Hormone Wellness MD as a virtual nurse practitioner!
